APCNA held its annual meeting in collaboration with ACC16 annual scientific sessions at Sheraton Grand Hotel in Chicago Illinois. The meeting was started with Fellow’s poster presentations. The meeting was well attended and there was only standing room in the hall.
Dr. Javed Butler was the keynote speaker. He is a graduate of Aga Khan Medical College, Karachi Pakistan. Javed Butler, M.D., MPH, MBA is a Professor of Medicine & Professor of Physiology and Biophysics. He is the director division of Cardiovascular Medicine and co-director of Heart Institute at Stoney Brook University. He is also the Senior Vice President of Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine. He delivered a state of the art lecture about developing effective therapies of worsening heart failure. Dr. Atique Mirza, APCNA President presented him the certificate of appreciation.
APCNA had the most number of new residents and Cardiology Fellows in attendance at the meeting today, it’s credit goes to Dr. Salman Khalid, APCNA chairperson for Fellows In Training (FIT). A large number of Cardiologists from various academic institutions of Pakistan also attended the meeting. Dr. Khurram Moin talked about APCNA signature pacemaker project and fund raising efforts to sustain the project. Dr. Atique Azam Mirza, the out going President of APCNA, addressed the audience and gave a brief overview of APCNA activities over the past year.
Dr. S. Wamique Yusuf announced the next executive committee for the year 2016-2017, Dr. Amin Haji Karim-President Elect, Dr. Nadeem Asfaque will continue as Secretary and Dr. Saquib Samee will also continue as treasurer of APCNA. Dr. Mushabbar Syed will be the next APCNA president. He was invited to the stage and he talked about the future directions of APCNA and gave his vision about the next year.
At end, Dr. Naeem Khan thanked Dr. Atique Mirza for his efforts to take the organization to the next level during his presidency year. He also invited Dr. Mushabbar Syed to honor Professor Hafizullah from Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar Pakistan who will be retiring this year by presenting him the ACC necktie as a souvenir. The meeting ended with a delicious dinner and a group photo of all the attendees.
